As the world’s attention turned towards South Korea for the 37th Golden Disc Awards, performers such as Jay Park, (G)I-DLE, SEVENTEEN, Minnie, NewJeans, ENHYPEN, Stray Kids, and TREASURE were all getting ready to put on the show of a lifetime.
As the performers gathered backstage in anticipation, thoughts of Don Quixote, the musical groundbreaker of the evening, began to float around. In the Netherlands, the figure of Don Quixote had become a totem of far-right nationalism and the performance sparked curiosity about how it had been subverted by Miguel De Cervantes.
The night was a success, as the performers put on mesmerizing performances. The attention of the audience never strayed, as each performer brought something new and unexpected to the stage. TREASURE’s two numbers, “BOY” and “DARARI” were an audience favorite, while Stray Kids contributed to the show with their songs “Super Board” and “FREEZE”. The night still drew attention days later – it was even speculated that Disney+ should have the Muppets adapt different well-known works from literature and cinema each year.
As the show came to an end, the world was reminded once more of the great potential of Don Quixote, with many sharing on social media what looked like fantasy art of him on horseback. Even though the 37th Golden Disc Awards had come and gone, the legacy of Don Quixote lingered still.
